I work with singers and speakers who have issues with tension or chronic hoarseness caused by abuse of the vocal folds. I teach them the McClosky relaxation techniques to help relieve the tension and achieve flow phonation in their voice. Tension in the tongue, jaw and swallowing muscles and lack of proper breath management causes problems for singers and speakers. I also focus on Vocal Hygiene and Voice Care.
I teach private voice students and work with clients who have tension and abuse issues. My training as a Certified McClosky Voice Technician gives me additional credentials to help troubled voices as well as teach both classical and musical theatre styes of singing to my private students. I also lecture on voice care and voice health and am a clinician for vocal competitions and festivals. I prefer working with young voices who are planning for vocal performance majors or musical theatre majors in college but I also teach adults and middle school students.
At St. Peter's Cathedral (1983-2001), I directed choirs of youth and adult singers, helped plan liturgies, and acted as a substitute organist. I founded and directed a Summer Choir Camp at DaySpring Conference Center in Ellenton, FL and served as Chair of the Music Committee for the Episcopal Diocese of Southwest Florida for 14 years.
