Lawrence Jatayna

 

Lawrence is a classical baritone soloist, voice instructor, and vocal arranger with over 20 years of experience in classical singing and teaching. In his earlier years, he performed in Europe, the U.S., Israel, Canada, Brunei, and Singapore, as a soloist or as a chorister, with the Singapore Lyric Opera, the UP Singing Ambassadors, the former San Miguel Master Chorale, and the Philippine Opera Company. As a baritone soloist, he has done Beethoven’s “9th Symphony”, Mozart’s “Requiem”, Mahler’s “8th Symphony”, Dubois’ “The Seven Last Words of Christ”, Rossini’s “Stabat Mater”, and Rachmaninoff’s “The Bells”. For opera, he has done “Sharpless” from Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly”, “Marcello” from “La Boheme” also by Puccini, “Don Alfonso” from Mozart’s “Cosi fan tutte”, and “Papageno” from “The Magic Flute” also by Mozart. Additional operatic roles he has done in recitals were Richard from Seymour Barab’s “Fortune’s Favorites,” The Learned Judge from “Trial By Jury” by Gilbert and Sullivan, and Ben from Gian Carlo Menotti’s “The Telephone.” Currently teaching voice at the UP College of Music Extension Program, he also freelances as a private voice coach, composer, choir conductor, music director, vocal workshop facilitator, and music consultant for corporate events. Lawrence finished Diploma in Creative and Performing Musical Arts (DCPMA) in Voice under the tutelage of the late Prof. Elmo Makil, and Bachelor in Music (BM) in Voice, under Prof. Ma. Cecilia “Bechie” Valeña, both at the UP College of Music, and is currently taking Masters in Voice at the same University. He recently completed the certification course at the McClosky Institute of Voice and is now a Certified McClosky Voice Technician (CMVT).
