David Parker
David Parker received the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Michigan in voice performance in 1986, and in 2006 became a Certified McClosky Vocal Technician through the McClosky Institute of Voice in Boston. His voice teachers have included Andrew White, John McCollum and Sherrill Milnes. David is on the voice faculty of Bob Jones University where he teaches private voice, Diction for Singers, Vocal Pedagogy, Music Technology, Opera and Oratorio Literature; he also directs the Opus 6 Vocal Ensemble.
David has soloed over one hundred and twenty times with numerous regional and community orchestras. These solo orchestra engagements have included multiple performances of the Brahms Requiem, Mozart Requiem, Fauré Requiem, Bach Mass in B Minor, Bach St. Matthew Passion, Bach Magnificat, Mendelssohn Elijah, Beethoven Ninth Symphony and sixty solo performances of Handel’s Messiah. Recent performances have included PDQ Bach’s Oedipus Tex, the Verdi Requiem and the Brahms Requiem with the Greenville Symphony and Greenville Chorale at the Peace Center for the Performing Arts in Greenville, SC. In the spring of 2012 David sang the role of “Tevye” in the BJU production of Fiddler on the Roof and the role of “Ferrando” in the BJU production of Il Trovatore. 2012 – 2013 performances have included the role of “Old Hebrew” in Samson and and Delilah, Sancta Civitas by R. Vaughan Williams,Christmas Fantasia by R. Vaughan Williams, and Soliloquy with the Greenville Symphony at the Peace Center for the Performing Arts (November 2012). He sang the Schubert Mass in G with the USC Upstate choirs in April of 2013. In October 2014 David sang the Vaughan Williams Dona Nobis Pacem with the Greenville Symphony Orchestra and Greenville Chorale. He was the guest choral conductor for the Colorado Assn. of Christian School in November and the Florida Assn. of Christian Schools in January 2015.
David is president and founder of SacredSheetMusic.com, a web-based music downloading company. An official Apple developer, David enjoys software programming including writing a program for church ministries called Church Music Planner™ and an educational program for observing student-teachers called iObserveU™ currently being used by two universities in South Carolina. David is also the music pastor of Westgate Baptist Church in Spartanburg, SC. When he is not teaching, leading the worship music at his church, performing or programming, David enjoys being with his family at their mountain home near Table Rock, SC and riding his motorcycle with Linda, his wife and soul-mate, through the beautiful scenery of the upstate South Carolina roads.
